Dear Cat,
I will not tell you what you should feed your children. I know several people that do not allow caffine or sugar to enter their home. As for me, it's the grace of YHWH {God} and two cups of coffie (with cream and sugar)gets me out of bed every morning.
In my opinion since both caffine and sugar are derived from plants there is no reason to avoid either unless of course they seem to be causing health or emotional problems. Genesis:1:29: "And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat." Genesis:1:30: "And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so."Genesis:9:3: "Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things."
In my opinion there are more important issues to consider. I trust that YHWH {God} will bless my food to the nourishment of my body so that I may in turn serve Him better as I ask Him to do. It is what comes out of my mouth that concerns me the most.
Mathew:15:10: "And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:" Mathew:15:11: "Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man."
Good luck on your decision. May peace and grace be with you.
